Development and Future Prospects of Organic Agriculture in Türkiye and Around the World
An organic farming system is one that uses natural pesticides, animal manures, green manures, and crop rotation rather than synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and hormones.
In organic farming, the main goal is to strengthen the ecological relationships between the "soil-plant-animal" factors, which have been deteriorated by human practices, by protecting nature's fauna and flora without harming the environment, without polluting people, animals, and organisms that are beneficial to us and to the environment, and finally, by strengthening the soil biological and mineral relationships. In order to keep its structure intact.
The advantages of organic farming are numerous. First, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which is positive for the environment. Second, it prevents soil erosion, which is also beneficial for the soil. Finally, it has very few disadvantages. Since organic farming is still in its infancy, it may not meet consumer demands, but the advantages it offers are so numerous that the disadvantages are relatively insignificant.
The development of organic agriculture around the world
The world's population is increasing rapidly, and in response, consumers are becoming more interested in organic agriculture. Organic agriculture has been adopted by many farmers in order to meet consumer demands. All organic agriculture movements in the world were eventually gathered under one roof by the IFOAM organization.
Research into organic farming began in England. The domestic market for organic products is continuously increasing in developed countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and the European Union. According to total agricultural output, Oceania (35%) and Europe (23%) are the top two continents for organic farming.
The development of organic agriculture in Türkiye
As early as the mid-1980s, the production of raisins, dried figs, dried apricots, and hazelnuts for export began under the agreed-upon system of contracted agriculture led by European organic agriculture companies. Since then, our product range has expanded; we are now producing and exporting hard-shelled and dried fruits, frozen fruits and vegetables, fresh fruits and vegetables, spices and pulses, as well as spices. Aside from these, rose water, rose oil, olive oil, cotton, and textile products saw a surge in production and export.
According to research, the number of organic farming enterprises in Türkiye increased from 11,179 in 2010 to 40,984 in 2021, an increase of 3.4 percent.
Organic Agriculture: Projections for the Future
The world food market has seen an increase in demand for organically grown products in recent years. Due to the increased sensitivity of consumers regarding the safety of foods and the concern about all environmental destruction in the world, traditional agriculture is relocating to organic agriculture.
Most farmers turn to classical agriculture, which is technologically advanced, instead of organic agriculture since organic agriculture requires more human labor. As a result, it is imperative to ensure that the producers who will make organic agriculture will be able to produce more comfortably and easily. This includes technological developments in organic agriculture.
By producing small robotics for organic farming, Orbiba Robotics aims to turn this disadvantage into an advantage.
