Orbiba Robotics received an Excellence Award at Global AgriInno Challenge 2024 for OrbBite, its autonomous agricultural robot concept. The recognition reported by Hasat Türk placed the company's AI- and robotics-led approach to organic farming on an international innovation platform.
Selected from 202 applications across 40 countries
The 2024 challenge, organised through cooperation between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Zhejiang University, focused on “Inclusive AI and emerging technologies for agrifood systems transformation.” According to FAO's finalist announcement, the programme received 202 applications from 40 countries and selected ten youth-led solutions with the potential to reshape agrifood systems. Orbiba Robotics was one of them.
Finalists presented to an international judging panel in Hangzhou, China, on 26 September 2024. Orbiba's pitch centred on OrbBite and the use of AI and robotics to support organic weed management and more sustainable field operations.
Reading the award category accurately
Hasat Türk and Orbiba Robotics' company announcement describe the recognition as an “Excellence Award.” FAO's post-event results list the Gold, Silver and Bronze winners separately. The Excellence Award designation used here is the distinct category reported by the source; it is not the competition's overall first prize.
- International benchmark: the solution was assessed alongside digital agriculture ventures from multiple countries.
- Product narrative: the pitch had to connect engineering with farmer needs, sustainability and practical adoption.
- Network effect: participation created contact with FAO, academia, mentors and agrifood entrepreneurs.
The award does not, by itself, prove commercial performance in every field condition. It does mark a tangible step in giving OrbBite international expert visibility and linking the platform to the transition towards more sustainable agrifood systems.
